Transportation: Efficient Systems in Place
The St. Cloud area's location smack in the middle of Minnesota makes the region a prime site for business. The area is essentially central to everyone doing business on a local, regional, state, national, and international level.

Companies here enjoy exceptional road access with Interstate 94 and U.S. Highway 10 running through the region. In addition, a coalition of groups from the private and public sector are working to gain funding to upgrade the region's highways and streets, including the development of an arterial road system.  Additional information provided by St Cloud Area Planning Organization.

The Federal Aviation Administration recently set aside $5.83 million to help pay for a reconstruction and expansion project at the St. Cloud Regional Airport. Expansion projects cover a number of items, including the enlargement of the runway, which enables the airport to offer regional jet service and provide air cargo capacity. In addition, the larger runway will help in a local effort to lure another air carrier to provide direct passenger flights to Chicago and Denver.  Click here to read about the City of St. Cloud's current efforts to secure scheduled commercial flights to O'Hare International in Chicago.  And to view the pledge form.

Beyond roads, efficient rail and air systems are also in place in the region. On the rail side, the potential exists for commuter rail to come to St. Cloud in the form of the NorthStar Corridor, which would provide service to and from the Twin Cities. This would clearly add to St. Cloud's role as a transportation hub.
